Human rights question

-

IRAN has imposed a 16-year jail sentence on one of the country’s leading women’s rights activists.

Narges Mohammadi, 44, has been in and out of jail over the past 15 years thanks to Iran’s hard-line judiciary.

Supporters say her ‘crime’ is to be a human rights lawyer.

Can the SNP delegation — MPs Alex Salmond and tasmina Ahmed-Sheikh and MSP Bill Kidd — who visited tehran give us their view of this worrying development? After all, we were assured by Mr Salmond at the time that they were met at ‘the highest level’ and that Miss Ahmed-Sheikh did raise the question of Iran’s disregard for human rights.
