Mick and Keith, combined age 145, roll back the years in the recording studio ...

-

THEIR excitement at being let loose in the recording studio clearly hasn’t waned over the past half a century.

Side-by-side, Mick Jagger and Keith Richards grinned like children in a sweetshop as they cut the Rolling Stones’ first album in a decade.

The camaraderie between singer Sir Mick, 7 , and guitarist Richards, 72, was evident as they were photographed performing tracks for Blue & Lonesome – and the veteran rockers were clearly delighted with their efforts.

The pair were joined by fellow band members drummer Charlie Watts, 75, and guitarist Ronnie Wood, 69.

The four, combined age of 289, appear to have no plans to retire or slow down. Recorded in only three days, Blue & Lonesome is the band’s 24th studio album and takes them back to their early Sixties rhythm and blues roots.

Guitar legend Eric Clapton, who had been recording in an adjoining studio, features on two of the tracks.

The album, the Stones’ first studio recording since A Bigger Bang in 2005, features cover versions of songs by blues legends such as Jimmy Reed, Willie Dixon, Eddie Taylor, Little Walter and Howlin’ Wolf.

It was recorded in West London – where the band began playing pubs and clubs in the Sixties – at British Grove Studios in Chiswick and at Eel Pie Island on the Thames.

The album, which was produced by American veteran Don Was, will be released on December 2 on Polydor Records.
