Footballer’s ‘sex boast’

Rape-accused Ched Evans told police of threesomes

- By Ben Wilkinson

CHED Evans told police he indulged in threesomes with a team-mate and claimed, ‘the girls like it – they’ve got two footballers’, his rape retrial heard yesterday.

He claimed women ‘throw themselves at him’ because ‘footballers are rich and girls like that’.

The former Wales international is accused of raping an ‘extremely drunk’ waitress who had been taken back to a budget hotel by a fellow footballer after a night out.

In a police interview, Evans said he walked in on his friend Clayton McDonald having sex with the teenager at the Premier Inn and was invited to join in.

He said he had previously been in a threesome with Mr McDonald when they both played for Manchester City, Cardiff Crown Court heard yesterday. ‘We were at our house playing a game and rolling a dice, and the next thing we know we were all just having sex,’ he said.

‘It’s not a normal thing but in the situation we’re in things like that happen. The girls like it. They’ve got two footballers there.

‘We get offers wherever we go. That’s the argument with my girlfriend because she knows women throw themselves at me. Footballers are rich and girls like that.’

Evans, 27, denies raping the 19year-old at the hotel in Rhyl, North Wales, in 2011. He is on trial for a second time after appealing against his conviction.

The woman at the centre of the case claims she woke up naked in the hotel room with no memory of what had happened, and is ‘convinced’ her drink was spiked.

The prosecution say Evans came to the hotel and had sex with the girl without her consent after Mr McDonald phoned him to say: ‘I’ve got a girl.’

Evans had booked the room before the night out. He told police in 2011: ‘As I’ve walked in the room, the girl was on her back with her legs up in the air. Clay was having sex with her. Clay asked, “Can my mate join in?”, and she was like “yeah”.’

Evans told police he had planned to go back to his parents’ house in Rhyl, and the room was booked for Mr McDonald and a friend.

The trial also heard from a hotel receptionist who said the woman had arrived at the hotel about 4am. Gavin Burrough said: ‘She was extremely drunk.’

Evans arrived 15 minutes later before the receptionist heard ‘squealing and groaning’ coming from the room.

Jurors also heard the complainant had arrived at a friend’s house banging on the door, an hour after she had woken up alone in the hotel room. The friend told police: ‘She was crying hysterically.’

The trial continues.
