EVIL spirits are stirring in this complex, confident and finely acted TV take on the movie. Britain’s Ben Daniels (pictured) stars as the only priest who seems capable of facing the evil, while Geena Davis plays a mother with a disturbed home. There’s no winking to the camera here — this is genuinely unsettling.

BRITCOM RETURNS Marley’s Ghosts, 10pm, Gold

MARLEY (Sarah Alexander) lives with the ghosts of her husband, her lover and a vicar (John Hannah, Nicholas Burns and Jo Joyner, pictured with Alexander); they never stop jabbering, and it’s driving her batty. This new, second series of Gold’s joyful comedy begins with Marley trying to seem ‘normal’ to her new neighbours.
