Trump booed over charity dinner swipe at Clinton

- From Tom Leonard in New York

DONALD Trump was booed at a Catholic charity dinner at which he tore into Hillary Clinton as she sat only feet away.

Presidential candidates usually indulge in gentle mockery at the Alfred E Smith Memorial Foundation Dinner in New York.

However, only 24 hours after he had called her ‘that nasty woman’ in their TV debate, Mr Trump soon made clear he had no intention of going easy on Mrs Clinton.

‘Here she is in public, pretending not to hate Catholics,’ he said, referring to leaked emails in which her senior campaign staff denigrated Roman Catholics.

He added: ‘She is so corrupt she got kicked off the Watergate Commission. How corrupt do you have to be to get kicked off the Watergate Commission? Pretty corrupt.’

Mrs Clinton revived claims that Mr Trump would be a Kremlin puppet and brought up his habit of rating women on their appearance.

While the world sees the Statue of Liberty as a ‘beacon of hope’, she said, ‘Donald looks at the Statue of Liberty and sees a four. Maybe a five if she removes the torch and tablet and changes her hair.’

Mr Trump also mocked his own wife for plagiarising a speech given by Michelle Obama. He said: ‘Michelle Obama gives a speech and everyone loves it. My wife, Melania, gives the exact same speech and people get on her case.’
