Arrests made over human trafficking
TWO people have been arrested in connection with human trafficking for prostitution.
Police in Edinburgh arrested and charged a 40-year-old man and a 32-year-old woman in the Gorgie area of the city on Thursday. The pair will appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court.
Detective Chief Inspector Alwyn Bell said: ‘Human trafficking is very much hidden but is happening within Edinburgh.
‘We are determined to improve the intelligence picture to gain a better understanding of trafficking in Scotland and the organised crime groups who are involved.’
Mr Brown said Police Scotland would work on the problem with partners across the UK and Europe, adding: ‘We will target those who control, abuse and exploit others to ensure that Scotland is a hostile environment to this sickening trade.’
