Designer clothes are just too expensive says Gwyneth (wearing her own brand £978 coat)

- Mail Foreign Service

SHE says other designers are ‘exorbitantly expensive’ – and wants her own range to be more affordable.

But some coats from Gwyneth Paltrow’s fashion brand will leave you little change from £1,000.

Even a simple blazer on her Goop Label comes with a price tag of almost £600. The 44-year-old launched the designs on Goop.com, her lifestyle and fashion website.

The garments are sold directly to customers – rather than in shops – which the mother of two says makes it easy for her to ‘pass on the savings’. However, prices are way beyond the reach of most high street shoppers.

The Gwyneth Soft Crombie Coat costs £ 78 and the Pattner Peak Label Blazer is £56 . Her Altieri Shawl Collar dress is £486, while customers are asked to pay £265 for the Eliza Wide Leg Culotte trousers.

Speaking to Fast Company magazine, Miss Paltrow said: ‘I find, as a consumer, that the price points of some of my favourite designer clothing is so exorbitantly expensive. I wanted to know if there was a way with the direct-toconsumer model – to create an incredible product that is slightly more aspirational, but pass on the savings to the consumer.’

Miss Paltrow last year faced criticism for urging her website followers to buy Christmas gifts including a £3,100 juicing machine and a £ ,000 diamond vase from luxury brand Esque.

The actress denied reports she was distancing herself from Goop, saying it remained her ‘heart and soul’. She said the reports had ‘never been more wrong,’ adding: ‘I’m here every day’.
