Queen star’s blast at the Royals
CLAIRE Foy showed last night that while she may have the required elegance to play the Queen, she doesn’t necessarily share the same eloquence.
For the actress, who is starring in The Crown, Netflix’s £100million series on the Royal Family, has referred to them as ‘f **** d up’ and likened the Queen’s reign to a ‘death sentence’.
The 32-year-old’s foul language and controversial comments come just days before the highly anticipated series is released worldwide.
Last night, Miss Foy was joined by Matt Smith, who plays her husband the Duke of Edinburgh, and one of the corgis, on the red carpet for the West End premiere in London.
However, it would seem Miss Foy, who starred as Anne Boleyn in the BBC adaptation of Wolf Hall, is not concerned by what the Windsors might think of the new series, which focuses on Princess Elizabeth ascending to the throne. She said: ‘They could be massively p **** d off. But I’m not going to bump into them, so it’s fine.’
She added: ‘I would love to think she [the Queen] would watch it as I think she would love the coronation, I think she would love the royal wedding, I think she would love Matt [Smith]’s Philip... But it’s too weird to think that she would watch it.’
While members of the Palace have not been officially consulted, sources say they are ‘very aware’ of the series, which will be launched on Friday.
