Donald’s tall storey! How his towers are shorter than he boasts
oPPonEnTS have accused him of telling tall stories. and it seems that they have a point when it comes to Donald Trump’s many new York skyscrapers.
The property mogul has been exaggerating the height of his buildings by up to 20 stoments reys, apparently to make his apartments more attractive to wealthy buyers. He said the Trump World Tower in Manhattan was 90 storeys and 900ft, though actually it is 70 stories and 843ft, according to city building department files.
Mr Trump – who bragged about the size of his manhood during one of the presidential debates – said he got to 90 floors by dividing 900ft by 10ft, the standard height of a residential floor, even though he advertised the apartments as having higher-thanusual ceilings.
He said at the time: ‘I could have gone higher than 90 stories. I chose 90 because I thought it was a good number’. The Trump Tower a few blocks away was described as 68 storeys when the building, which acts as the tycoon’s HQ and has offices, apart- and shops, has only 58 floors, the new York Times reported. When it was built Mr Trump started the first apartments on the ‘30th floor’ – though there were only 19 commercial floors beneath them.
Plans for Trump SoHo, a hotel finished in 2010, showed there were 43 floors, but that did not stop Mr Trump claiming there were 46.
When he renovated the 583ft Trump International Hotel in 1994, he said it was 52 storeys, though it had 44.
He claimed the new apartments were smaller and he was being restrained because he could have said it was 60 floors high if he wanted to. There have been similar exaggerations about Trump Park avenue, a former hotel now luxury apartments, and Trump Place tower, part of a residential complex
