Four Islamic ‘extremist’ schools we can’t close
FOUR Islamic schools ordered to close after fears over extremism or pupil safety still operate because the Government is powerless to shut them down.
All four establishments are feepaying independent schools in England. They have launched legal appeals against closure which allow them to continue operating until a ruling is made.
One allegedly taught girls that men can beat and rape their wives and told its pupils music is the voice of the devil.
At a school in Birmingham, inspectors found leaflets ‘containing highly concerning and extremist views’. Concerns were first raised five years ago.
And inspectors at one of the schools, in Leicester, said pupils ‘hold stereotypical views on gender and careers’ and were unready for modern British life.
Tory MP Andrew Bridgen said: ‘It is of great concern that schools which have been identified by Ofsted with such systemic failings are using our legal system to continue to “educate” children.’
The DfE confirmed the schools were taken off the register but closure is automatically halted when an appeal is launched. It said: ‘Extremism has no place in our society and when we find schools promoting twisted ideologies or discrimination in classrooms, we will take action.’
