Spate of Bonfire Night attacks on firefighters
BONFIRE Night saw attacks on firefighters across the country, the fire service has said.
On its busiest night of the year the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service responded to 970 callouts.
But a crew in Ardrossan, Ayrshire, was attacked by youths, while firefighters in Greenock, Inverclyde, had to withdraw while attending an incident after objects were thrown. Fireworks were also thrown at crews in the Balgray hill area of Glasgow and in Clydebank.
Similar attacks took place in Falkirk, Edinburgh and Stirling. Criticising the yobs, the assistant chief officer of the fire service Lewis Ramsay said: ‘Attacks on emergency responders are completely unacceptable.’
