Smile Vicky! It’s all in the line of duty...
SHE made her name playing a policewoman in BBC drama Line of Duty – and Vicky McClure was certainly an arresting sight on the red carpet at last night’s BAFTA Scotland awards.
The 33-year-old dazzled in midnight blue velvet and enjoyed a reunion with her Scots co-star from the hit series, Martin Compston, but seemed disinclined to replicate his wide smile.
Miss McClure has been filming in Glasgow for psychological drama The Replacement, in which she plays an architect with a disturbing agenda.
Other guests at the ceremony at the city’s Radisson Blu hotel included television actress nominee Ashley Jensen, broadcaster Kirsty Wark, Doctor Who’s Peter Capaldi and the event’s host, DJ Edith Bowman.
Glasgow-born X-Men star James McAvoy happily posed for selfies with waiting fans, as did Outlander’s Sam Heughan.
Heughan was accompanied by his Irish co-star Caitriona Balfe, who scooped the best television actress award for her role as time-travelling Claire Fraser in the fantasy drama.
The prize for best television actor went to Dougie Henshall, for his role as Detective Jimmy Perez in BBC drama Shetland, which also picked up the best TV drama accolade. Other winners included Kate Dickie, who took the film actress award for her role in thriller Couple in a Hole.
Peter Mullan scooped the male film actor trophy for his lead role in drama Hector, while Mrs Brown’s Boys was named best comedy/entertainment show for the second year running for its Christmas special last year.
Jason Connery’s Tommy’s Honour – about Tom Morris, the professional golf pioneer – won in the best feature film category.
Connery said his father Sir Sean was in fine form at the age of 86, even getting a recent hole in one when playing golf in the Bahamas, where he now lives.
He added that his father had sent him a video message wishing him well at the ceremony, saying: ‘He said, “Good luck son, I hope things go your way.” It was on Skype. He’s pretty good.’
