Fraser is firing up United’s title bid

- ALEX DOWDALLS

SCOTT FRASER believes the sparkling display against Queen of the South on Bonfire Night is proof that Dundee United are capable of rocketing back up into the Premiership. The midfielder’s superb strike in the 57th minute lit up Palmerston after Queens’ Grant Anderson had cut the deficit made by Mark Durnan and Tony Andreu’s first-half goals. A late Simon Murray strike capped a fine display and gave United a fifth successive win to remain three points behind Championship leaders Hibernian. However, it was Fraser, a product of the United youth set-up, who stole the show with a wonder strike from 25 yards. ‘It’s one of those you hit in training and hope it ends up in the net,’ he said. ‘My confidence is high, so I took the strike on. ‘I then got booked for ending up in the crowd. I was trying to stay back, but I think it was William Edjenguele who pushed me in, but I’ll take it. ‘It was always going to take time with 11 new players, but everyone is starting to gel now and we are getting the best out of each other.’ It was a fourth defeat in a row for Queens, who drop to sixth in the table, and Anderson said: ‘We let ourselves down but I am confident we will turn the corner and get back to winning ways.’
