Winning formula breeds confidence for O’Connor

- By MARK WILSON

ANTHONY O’CONNOR insists Aberdeen must continue to build momentum ahead of their Betfred Cup final date against Celtic. The Pittodrie defender scored his first goal for the club in Friday night’s 2-1 success over Partick Thistle, which ended a two-game losing sequence. O’Connor feels another victory over Inverness after the international break is essential to grow confidence before they attempt to upset Brendan Rodgers’ side on November 27. ‘We’ve been saying for the last couple of weeks we need to win games going into the final,’ said the former Burton Albion player. ‘It’s always nice to get a bit of silverware and that’s what the club wants to do. There will be 25,000 Aberdeen fans there. I’m absolutely buzzing for it. That’s why I’ve come here, to play in big games, against big teams such as Celtic. ‘It’ll be a packed house at Hampden and that’ll be a great feeling. ‘We’re not going there just to think: “Let’s get a respectable score”. It’s 11 v 11. Fair enough, they’ve beaten us twice already this season but something is telling me there is a win there for us. ‘We’ll just relax now and it’s nice to take a win into the international break. Hopefully, we can get another win going into the final and will take confidence from that.’
