DAME NATALIE MASSENET, 51 ESTIMATED WEALTH: £135 MILLION

HOW SHE MADE IT: The American-born former journalist started online fashion site Neta-porter from her Chelsea flat 16 years ago, storing the packaging in her bathtub.

Her ribbon-wrapped black and cream boxes soon became ubiquitous. massenet sold a £50 million stake to luxury goods giant richemont in 2010, and cashed in her remaining holding last year when Net-a-porter merged with fellow online retailer Yoox — she got £100million, just under £274,000 a day.

HOW SHE SPENDS IT: massenet split from her French financier husband Arnaud in 2010, and moved with their daughters, Isabella and Ava, into an 1880s mansion in london’s South Kensington reported to be worth £15 million.

As chairman of the British Fashion Council, dame Natalie always wears the latest designer clothes, and says her gold Tiffany cuff and a Valentino chain necklace are ‘part of my uniform’.

She and her partner, erik Tortensson, a Swedish entrepreneur, celebrated her 50th birthday last year by taking over the exclusive restaurant da Adolfo on Italy’s Amalfi coast for a party. In February, she hosted a $2,000-a-head fundraising dinner for Hillary Clinton, masterminded by her friend, u.S. Vogue editor Anna Winour.
