Emily ‘won’t ever return to Corrie’

CORONATION Street’s Emily Bishop may have sipped her final sherry in The Rover’s Return after 3,301 episodes, a show source has claimed.

Eileen Derbyshire, 85, right, who has played her since 1961, has not been seen on screen since January 1.

The actress took six months off last November, but a show source told the Sun On Sunday: ‘There is no expectation that she will be back.’ On the soap’s website, Emily’s address is given as ‘somewhere in Peru’ in reference to her visiting her nephew there at the start of this year. But a show spokesman insisted that Miss Derbyshire ‘has not indicated at any time that she does not plan to return in the future’.
