Back in the big time, it’s Sheena aged 57
Now, standing proud in high heels and beaming broadly in a figure-hugging frock, the Lanarkshire-born singer looked like a different woman as she greeted fans at the launch of her new musical.
The 57-year-old from Bellshill – who made her name after starring in 1980 BBC reality show The Big Time – beamed for photographers on the stairs of London’s Theatre Royal ahead of next year’s production of 42nd Street.
A show insider said: ‘Sheena has been on brilliant form, and looks absolutely radiant.’
Speaking yesterday, Miss Easton, who was romantically linked to pop legend Prince in the 1980s, said: ‘It is the perfect role for me. At my age great roles aren’t written every day.’
In an interview with website What’s On Stage, she added: ‘It’s one of the great complaints of a woman over 40 that there are a lot less roles out there. This is one of the few roles that made me want to come back to do eight shows a week in the theatre.’
Her appearance comes three years after she was pictured emerging from a dental centre in Las Vegas, make-up free and being pushed around in a wheelchair.
The Grammy Award-winning singer will play the role of Broadway star Dorothy Brock in the 42nd Street revival. The new show will be directed by its co-author Mark Bramble.
Miss Easton’s career spans four decades and she has sold more than 20million records worldwide. Her most famous songs include 9 to 5, We’ve Got Tonight (with Kenny Rogers) and U Got The Look, a duet with Prince.
