Telfer warns United not to rest on their laurels

- By EUAN McARTHUR

CHARLIE TELFER last night warned title-chasing Dundee United to write off St Mirren at their peril. The United midfielder spoke out ahead of today’s Tannadice clash as Ray McKinnon’s men aim to stretch their unbeaten run to 14 games against the bottomof-the-table Buddies. The Tangerines inflicted a 2-0 defeat on their visitors back in October in what was Jack Ross’ first game in charge of the Paisley outfit. However, the Saints have since started to get their act together in their quest to move off the foot of the table. And Telfer, who has been a stand-out for the Taysiders in recent weeks, knows the visitors will be no pushovers. He said: ‘People will look at this one and think it’s a home win. Obviously, the fans saw us go down there and win, so they’ll think back up here we will do it again. ‘St Mirren have run into a bit of form recently and it will be a tough one. Down there, it was a very good game and they pushed us. ‘We celebrated quite a bit at the end because we knew it had taken a good performance to win — and we were delighted with the win. ‘It showed they are a good side and I expect them, if they can get a good wee run of form, to climb up the table.’ Saints defender Gary Irvine firmly believes the Paisley men have turned the corner after piecing together a heartening run of three fixtures without defeat. ‘It is starting to really click now,’ said Irvine. ‘It has been really bright and positive ever since Jack Ross came in and we haven’t had too many bad performances. ‘Now we are starting to get the results and we are determined to keep that going up at Tannadice. With the position we are in, every single game is (like) a derby.’
