DAVIES STILL SPURRED ON BY CALEY’S JEERS

- ALASDAIR FRASER

ANDREW DAVIES is determined to inflict another bout of Highland derby heartache on the Caley Thistle fans who marred Ross County’s League Cup-winning celebrations. The Englishman was angered by the jeers and insults hurled at the County squad and their young families as the open-top bus set off in Dingwall after last March’s meeting. County crashed to a 3-0 home defeat to their great rivals, just six days after landing their first major piece of silverware. Partying Caley Thistle fans waited at the nearby train station to taunt their foes mercilessly as the trophy parade began. Davies (below) remains fired-up by the memory, even though some vengeance was wreaked in August’s 3-2 triumph in Inverness. The 32-year-old said: ‘That game last year, when we did the parade after they beat us at home, really sticks in my mind. ‘Going over the bridge and seeing their fans singing at the station, I had that in my mind when we played them through at their place. ‘When we won, I had a little smile on my face because we got one over them. But it’s still there, really. ‘I hope the lads take that into consideration and remember what they were singing when we were going over the bridge. Fingers crossed we can get a win and be the ones singing on Saturday.’ Caley have won only one out of their last 13 matches but Davies insists Richie Foran’s men will be given every respect when they make the short trek over the Kessock Bridge today. He added: ‘Caley Thistle are obviously bottom of the league, but a wounded animal is one you’ve got to be careful of. We can’t go into it thinking we’re just going to roll them over.’
