Beware of the cat! Blood-thirsty devil pet leaves posties wounded

- By Inderdeep Bains

WITH his glaring green eyes and bared fangs, Heston the cat would terrify any mouse or bird.

But it is not only the local wildlife that has to worry when he is in a temper.

Scared visitors to his owners’ home have also found themselves the target of Heston’s fury – with several suffering bites so severe they have drawn blood.

While he might initially appear to be a picture of innocence, two postwomen, a driver from a parcel delivery firm and a mechanic have all been pounced on.

The five-year-old animal’s owner Bruce Robertson, a steelworker, said his pet has been dubbed the ‘devil cat’ by neighbours.

‘He has drawn blood from two post deliverers,’ the 58-year-old said. ‘One was a postwoman who after the attack was shouting at us from across the road with blood pouring down her arm.’

He added that another was attacked when Heston – who was named after celebrity chef Heston Blumenthal – jumped at the letterbox and bit her hand as she pushed through the post.

‘Then we had a parcel man who was bitten. He rang up my wife to say he was going to

report our guard dog for being dangerous. But it wasn’t a dog that attacked him – it was Heston,’ explained Mr Robertson, who also has a 21-yearold son, Shane.

‘Another time a mechanic came round to give me my car’s MoT results. He was attacked by Heston before he got through the front gate – when I went to help him Heston had his mouth clamped around his ankle.’

Even a golden retriever that lives nearby has proved no match for Heston, who manages to chase it away.

In an effort to avoid any further casualties, Mr Roberston and his wife Wendy, 51, have now put up a warning sign on the front door of their home in Caldicot, south Wales.

It reads: ‘Beware: Guard cat on duty. Do not put fingers through the letterbox.’

However locals are still wary. The Robertsons’ neighbour – a bodybuilder – has refused to visit for fear of being attacked.
