Jose tips Rashford to overtake Rooney

-

THE day deservedly belonged to Wayne Rooney as he equalled sir Bobby Charlton’s scoring record, but Jose Mourinho claimed Marcus Rashford could overtake them both in future. Rooney (right) hit his 249th goal for United on saturday and it’s only a matter of time before the honour is his outright. Charlton and sir Alex ferguson led the applause. for Rashford, however, this was an impressive return to the scintillating form of his breakthrough season at United. His running and enterprise were a joy. He also scored twice, even if the second came gift-wrapped from Reading No 1 Ali Al-Habsi’s blunder. When Mourinho was asked afterwards if anyone can break the United scoring record again, he suggested it could be Rashford. ‘Marcus, he is 19,’ he said. ‘If he plays at Man United until the end of his career, maybe he’ll do it. ‘Especially in modern football, it would be really difficult.’ Rooney could break the record at Old Trafford tomorrow night when United face Hull in the semifinal of the EfL Cup.
