Will you pay £110 for Sam Cam’s T-shirt?

She launches (rather pricey) new range after Dave tells her: Now do YOUR thing

- By Liz Hull

SHE says her clothes are for women who are busy juggling lots of things and love fashion — so, presumably, when Samantha Cameron’s fashion range is launched today, Theresa May will be one of the first at the tills.

After all, according to the former Prime Minister’s wife, the style-conscious Tory leader always ‘looks great’, and in an interview to launch her new label, Ceffin, Mrs Cameron revealed she approved of Mrs May’s leather trousers and leopard print shoes.

Speaking to the Sunday Times Style magazine, Mrs Cameron said her husband David was being ‘unbelievably supportive’ of her new venture and had agreed that after six years in Downing Street it was now time for his wife ‘to do her thing’.

She added: ‘It was really lovely to be able to take time out and spend more time with the children for almost six years. But I was definitely ready to get back to the nitty-gritty.’

Although she admits she is ‘terrified’ of the public reaction, Mrs Cameron said she needed to give it a go.

‘I don’t want to look back on my life and think, “You’ve always wanted to do this and you never did it,” ’ she said.

But she admits the pressure is on and she will have to just take any criticism ‘on the chin’.

Mrs Cameron said she had been planning the range for a while and had the support of friends in high places, such as Anna Wintour, the fearsome editor-in-chief of American Vogue, who cast an early eye over the collection.

‘She gave me great advice. She was very much, “Don’t be scared to put your stamp of individuality on it.” She liked the fact it was about real women and she was very much, “Stick with that.” ’

The price tags are likely to put Sam Cam’s collection out of the reach of most real women, though. A simple black T-shirt costs £110, while dresses cost upwards of £200 and a navy belted coat is priced at £390.

Working on the new collection had also made her more conscious of women’s bodies and the way they dress, she said.

Despite the recent ‘Trousergate’ debacle, when Tory MP Nicky Morgan criticised Mrs May’s expensive leather trousers, Samantha Cameron was full of praise for the PM’s style, saying: ‘She looks great. Well, she’s got fantastic legs. She’s got great legs. She wears it well.’

Mrs May’s love of fashion is wellknown and she continued the tradition of hosting a Downing Street reception for the fashion industry during London Fashion Week when she took office.

A life-long fan of Vogue, Mrs May has also reportedly posed for acclaimed photographer Annie Leibovitz for the April American edition of the magazine.
