I’m 63. Is it safe to have a thread lift at my age?

- Dr Tracy Mountford

QAT 63, I’ve decided I’m ready for a full-face thread lift. I’m not happy with my wrinkles and am keen to take action. The only problem is I’m worried that I’m too old to risk a procedure like this. Am I more prone to infection at my age or will it take longer to heal? Is it safe for a woman in her 60s?

THReAD lifts are suitable for all ages. You might take longer to heal than a younger patient, but if you are fit and well there is no added risk of infection.

The best result for people in their 60s generally comes from a combination treatment.

Thread lifts are effective on sagging cheeks and jowls, and can achieve good results on the neck. They lift the tissue gently and offer subtle results, so for a greater effect or to improve wrinkles or lines, your doctor will probably recommend deep injections of filler, too.

Fillers have little, if any, recovery time, but thread lifting would do for a more mature candidate. There is a possibility of bruising or swelling lasting up to ten days. Infection is rare, but can happen any time a procedure involves puncturing the skin, no matter how minor.

For two days after a thread lift, sleep on a raised pillow and avoid extreme facial movements, such as opening your mouth very wide (as at the dentist), for two to three weeks.

Gentle exercise is fine after two or three days, with high-impact sports, such as running, after two weeks.

A thread lift is tailor-made to your requirements and fees start at £1,200.
