Bairns happy to fly under the radar in play-off push

- By FRASER CLARKE

FALKIRK defender Aaron Muirhead believes flying ‘under the radar’ suits them perfectly as they try to challenge at the top of the Championship table. The 26-year-old was on target with a penalty in the Bairns’ impressive 3-0 victory over Dundee United on Saturday. His spot-kick was sandwiched between John Baird’s early opener and a James Craigen strike as Falkirk enjoyed near total domination over their promotion rivals. The win moves them into third, just three points behind the Arabs and nine behind Hibs, but Muirhead is happy that their recent run of wins has gone relatively unnoticed. He said: ‘The talk of a two-horse race suits us, we will continue to fly under the radar. ‘Their budgets at the start of a season are far superior to ours but we have bags of talent. ‘We have another tough game next week at Morton and we will begin planning for that.’ Muirhead (right) was delighted to score his first league goal for the club but insists they won’t get carried away despite a turnaround in form which has seen them win their last three matches. ‘I was happy to see the goalie go quite early and just roll it in,’ he said. ‘We knew we had enough ability to turn it around. ‘It has been about hard work and determination, we thoroughly deserved the win against United. ‘I don’t see our play-off experience as a huge factor, as Morton and Dundee United have the same levels of experience. ‘I wouldn’t rule out Dunfermline or Raith Rovers with a new manager — anyone can beat anyone in this league.’ Meanwhile, Dundee United left-back Paul Dixon knows he and his team-mates need to quickly rediscover the form that saw them go 14 games unbeaten before the turn of the year. He said: ‘It wasn’t good enough and it wasn’t acceptable. ‘We should have played a lot better and put pressure on Hibs and we have missed a great opportunity to do that. ‘There has to be a strong mentality within any team that is going for a league title. We need to find that again and get back on that run of not losing games, so hopefully we can pick that up again. ‘It’s football. There is to-ing and fro-ing throughout the season. ‘We need to learn from our mistakes and not get ahead of ourselves. We need to go back to the drawing board and analyse it. ‘We don’t look down, we look forward and we will carry on doing that right up until the end of the season and try to catch Hibs in the process. I don’t see why we can’t catch them.’
