ANIER INSISTS HIGHLANDERS WILL IMPROVE

- By JOHN McGARRY

AS A member of the Dundee United team which was relegated last season, Henri Anier knows well the trademark signs of a sinking ship when he sees them. While a six-goal hammering at the hands of Celtic in the Scottish Cup will hardly have helped boost the collective morale at Inverness for the league run-in, the Estonian striker contends that he has already detected the vital signs of life that were conspicuous by their absence at Tannadice a year ago. And the 26-year-old, who came back to Scottish football from Swedish side Kalmar last month, believes the next 14 games will see Richie Foran’s side comprehensively show that their current predicament is but an unfortunate passing phase. ‘Since I’ve joined a month ago I can see that we have a good group of lads and we’ve been positive, so we don’t think like we’re bottom of the league,’ said the former Motherwell and Hibernian man. ‘Every club is different and in the month I’ve been here everything around Inverness has been very positive. ‘We shouldn’t be sitting bottom of the table, but that’s where we are. ‘We just need to stick together and we need to find a way to keep confidence up, stop conceding easy goals and put them away up the other end. ‘I think it’s that simple. We’ve been working hard every day in training on our shape and all the boys are working hard as well as the gaffer. It just hasn’t been going our way. ‘We can’t drop our heads, we have to stay positive and hopefully our time will come.’ Foran absolved his players of blame after the six-goal hiding, being honest enough to admit they were ‘totally outclassed’ and ‘beaten by a better team’. ‘It wasn’t fun to play in, it was a tough, tough day,’ added Anier.
