SIR Bruce Forsyth returned home yesterday after five nights in intensive care.

But concerns remain over the health of the ailing 89-year-old entertainer, who has had to cancel all forthcoming public and personal engagements.

Sir Bruce, who was rushed to hospital on Sunday after developing a severe chest infection, will be looked after by his wife Wilnelia and other members of his family.

The presenter’s long-serving manager Ian Wilson issued a statement before his departure from St Peter’s Hospital in Chertsey, Surrey, saying he would ‘like to thank everyone for their good wishes’.

Mr Wilson added: ‘He and his family would also like to say a special thank you to all the NHS doctors, nurses and staff at St Peter’s Hospital for their kindness and care.’

Sir Bruce’s wife of 33 years, a former Miss World, has spent much of the past week at the former Strictly Come Dancing presenter’s bedside as he battled infection.

The star’s illness was described as ‘very, very serious’, largely because of his age. He was kept in intensive care while being treated with antibiotics.

Although he remains weak, Sir Bruce is reported to be in ‘good spirits’.

A friend said: ‘As has been the case for a while now, there are no planned appearances or functions ahead and anything in the immediate diary has been postponed.

‘For now, Bruce is keeping his head down and simply focusing on getting better and his strength back up.

‘It has been a worrying time, but hopefully he is now on the mend.’

The former Generation Game host has had other health scares in recent times.

He underwent surgery in 2015 after suffering two aneurysms, which were discovered when tests were carried out following a fall at his Surrey home.

His recuperation took longer than expected and the popular presenter was not seen out in public at all last year. He was unable even to attend the funerals of his close friends Ronnie Corbett and Terry Wogan.
