Should EU nationals in the UK be reassured?

-

WE SHOULD never play with people’s lives when it comes to Brexit or any other matter, and EU nationals living in the UK should not be used as political pawns. However, nearly a million British live in other EU states, and they also deserve fair treatment. I believe the Lords and MPs will be sacrificing Brits abroad to the whims of the EU’s negotiators if they pursue the amendments. Parliament’s first job is to serve and protect the British people. STUART NOYES, Andover, Hants. THE Government and the Eu should reach an agreement as soon as possible to allay the concerns of foreign Eu nationals living in the uK and those of British living abroad, and guarantee that their position will not change whatever the results of Brexit negotiations. It’s simple common sense.

ROGER CHALLICE, Melksham, Wilts. PERHAPS the Government could grant EU citizens in the UK the right to remain in this country if they provide proof of, say, a minimum of five years’ work history, or that their income is sufficient to ensure they will not claim benefits. They would then be reassured and those seeking to derail Brexit would be silenced (on this topic, at least). A. R. STEAD, Loftus, North Yorks. no onE likes the uncertainty faced by Eu nationals living and working in the uK, but I’m amazed at how little consideration is being given to the Brits residing elsewhere in the Eu. What about their right to stay where they are? Sadly, no one is discussing what will happen and how the uK will cope if they’re forced to return home.

DAVE JOHNS, Sussex.
