We’re all up for Downton movie, says Mrs Hughes
LOVERS of period drama have been bereft since it left our screens on Christmas Day 2015.
But fans of Downton Abbey have been thrown a crumb of hope by a Scots star of the show.
Paisley-born Phyllis Logan – who played housekeeper Mrs Hughes – has dropped a clanging hint that the cast and crew will reunite for a silver screen showing of the ensemble classic.
Speaking yesterday, Miss Logan, 61, said: ‘The will is definitely there with everybody involved.
‘Fingers crossed that we can make it all come about at some stage. And we’d love all to get back together again and have one last hurrah.’
But any new instalments of the show – big screen or otherwise – could take months or even years to come to fruition.
Due to the now-hectic schedules of the huge cast, many of whom were catapulted into the limelight by the program, Miss Logan has described the process of getting them together as like ‘herding cats’. She said: ‘There’s so many of us. In normal film situations you might have a core cast of half a dozen, or whatever. But this is a core cast of thousands – it feels like at times.’
Her comments follow heavy hints from other sources connected with the programme that a reunion could be on the cards.
Jim Carter, who played butler Carson, has claimed that actors have already been asked to free up a slot of time in anticipation of the big-screen version.
Meanwhile, the creator of the ITV series, Lord Julian Fellowes, also fuelled speculation about a forthcoming film as he arrived at an Olivier Awards Nominees lunch yesterday.
Asked about the prospects of shooting a movie version of the much-loved show, he said: ‘If it were up to me I would answer immediately and we would go this afternoon, but it’s not my choice and not my decision.
‘I’m pro it, I’m not resisting, but logistically I think it’s quite hard because it’s a very big cast and you would want to get all of them.
‘They are all on Broadway or in Hollywood, and so on, and we would have to find this magic window.’
