SPELLBINDI­NG SERIES The Worst Witch, 4.30pm, CBBC

THE magnificen­t castle in this series is actually a blend of two — Peckforton in Cheshire and Burg Hohenzolle­rn in Germany — and, in this thrilling new episode, it’s surrounded by a weird mist. Ethel and Mildred wander in and are sent spinning back in time.

FOOTBALL Monaco v Manchester City, 7pm, BT Sport 2

CITY lead this Champions League last-16 tie 5-3 after the first leg at the Etihad, with Sergio Aguero finding the net twice. Can they protect their lead at the Stade Louis II? Tonight’s other tie (on BT Sport 3) is Atletico Madrid v Bayer Leverkusen, which stands at 4-2 to the Spanish side.

DEALS ON WHEELS Used Car Wars, 8pm, Dave

DAVE’S new reality series is about the ‘battle’ between two used-car sales teams in Derby, but that’s not what’s most interestin­g about it — it’s the way the salesmen deal with the punters. Here, one attempts to start a sale while tucking into a bag of Monster Munch. His boss swiftly puts an end to that . . .

CYCLE HERITAGE Pedalling Dreams: The Raleigh Story, 9pm, BBC4

THE bewitching story of Raleigh bikes; the company was founded in 1888 by Frank Bowden, whom doctors had given six months to live. He took up cycling, thrived and soon after created Raleigh. Quality was foremost in Bowden’s mind, and some of those early bikes are still functional today.

FREEVIEW FILM The Descendant­s, 9pm, More4

OSCAR-WINNING adaptation of Kaui Hart Hemmings’s novel from Alexander Payne (Sideways). George Clooney is in introspect­ive mood as the workaholic father who reassesses his life after his wife is involved in an accident; the melodrama of the situation develops into something complex and decidedly unexpected.

CRIME THRILLER Midnight Sun, 10pm, Sky Atlantic

ANY series that opens with a man strapped to helicopter blades is clearly out to get your attention. This new French-Swedish murder mystery does a good job of holding it, too, with stunning landscapes and a good pair of investigat­ors — a deep-feeling Frenchwoma­n and an offbeat Swede (Leila Bekhti and Gustaf Hammarsten, pictured).

POLISH TALE Ida, 11.15pm, Film4

WINNER of the Best Foreign Language Film Oscar, PolishBrit­ish director Pawel Pawlikowsk­i’s drama is shot in stunning black and white. It follows Anna, a 17-year-old novitiate nun (Agata Trzebuchow­ska) and her only surviving relative (Agata Kulesza) on a journey into her past — and into the wartime past of Poland itself. Tender and powerful.
