Singer Darius divorcing ‘in the best way’

- By Peter Robertson

SINGER Darius Campbell has revealed he and his actress wife Natasha Henstridge are divorcing ‘in the best way’.

The Scots Pop Idol finalist spoke out about their split on ITV’s Loose Women yesterday.

He also comforted host Coleen Nolan after she told of her sister’s battle with cancer, saying both his parents had also fought the disease.

Campbell, 36, split from Species star Miss Henstridge, 42, in 2013. They married in 2011. He was linked to Strictly star Daisy Lowe last year before reuniting with Miss Henstridge.

He said: ‘We tried to make it work and we’ve separated and we’re divorcing, but in the best way, as friends. I suppose in the most bittersweet and wonderful way, we’re dear friends.

‘I really meant what I said when you say in front of someone, “I’m going to give you my life, I’m gonna spend my life with you”. You mean it, and if you don’t you shouldn’t be in it.’

The singer – now touring with the musical Funny Girl – was stepfather to his Canadian wife’s two sons from a previous relationship.

Campbell – who hit No 1 with Colourblind in 2002 – said: ‘I got to be a stepfather and to raise two sons, and I got the gift of being able to be in a position where I was the head of a family that travelled and did wonderful things.’

After Miss Nolan opened up about her sister Linda’s cancer, Campbell told how his Iranian father Booth Danesh and Scottish mother Aileen Campbell, who live in Bearsden, Dunbartonshire, had both battled the disease.

He said: ‘It’s been two years as of this month that they’ve celebrated my mum’s all-clear.

‘They sent me a photo of them on Saturday at Balmaha, in Loch Lomond, where I played as a child, saying, “Thinking of you, celebrating mum’s all-clear”.’
