Airports on alert for mother who’s vanished with her two young sons
POLICE hunting for a mother missing with her two sons last night revealed she is on the run and wanted for their abduction.
Samantha Baldwin, 42, left her house keys with neighbours so they could feed her cats before disappearing with her children, Louis, nine, and six-year-old Dylan.
The trio have not been seen since Monday lunchtime and police launched an urgent appeal saying they were ‘seriously concerned’ for their welfare.
Last night officers revealed Miss Baldwin, who is separated from the boys’ father, David Madge, 43, was now wanted on suspicion of child abduction. They said she no longer has legal custody over the children.
Police also confirmed they had arrested two women aged 62 and 36 in connection with the boys’ disappearance.
Photographs of the missing mother and her sons were issued to airports, ports and railway stations across the country after the trio vanished from Nottingham city centre on Monday.
Police revealed they had received eight potential sightings – two of which are still being investigated.
They confirmed they ‘were keeping an open mind’ and had not discounted the possibility that the mother had fled abroad. Superintendent Rich Fretwell, of Nottinghamshire police, said the case was no longer being treated as a missing persons inquiry.
‘Investigators are this evening appealing in relation to an abduction investigation that has taken the place of a missing person appeal,’ he said.
Earlier yesterday Mr Fretwell made a direct appeal to Miss Baldwin to get in touch. ‘Samantha, all we ask is that you please pick up the phone and let us know you and the children are OK and that you are safe,’ he said. ‘We have received thousands of messages of concern for you and the boys.‘Your loved ones are desperately worried and want to hear from you. They just want to know you and the boys are safe.‘For now all we need is that phone call.’Police said Miss Baldwin asked neighbours to care for her pets before fleeing her smart terraced property in Newark, Nottinghamshire. Her car is also missing.
She also has links to Manchester and Lincolnshire. Neighbour Jane Mann, 29, said: ‘I’m praying that they are OK.
‘Her car is not outside. Sam always seems very friendly. Miss Baldwin was last seen wearing a red knee-length coat from high street brand Mango. The boys sometime use the surname Taylor.
