Illness makes Eric Clapton axe shows

-

ERIC Clapton has cancelled two concerts on doctors’ orders.

The 71-year-old singer and guitarist has suffered a bout of ‘severe bronchitis’ and pulled out of the shows in Los Angeles, a day before the first was due to take place.

He hopes to be able to reschedule the dates for September and in a statement said he was ‘very sorry to disappoint fans’.

Clapton, famous for Layla, Wonderful Tonight and I Shot the Sheriff has had a career spanning five decades starting with the Yardbirds. He then formed the supergroup Cream and has also released 22 solo albums.

In 2013 the rock legend, born in Ripley, Surrey, cancelled concerts after citing back pains. The following year he announced he was considering retirement.

In 2016, he revealed he suffered from peripheral neuropathy, a potentially career-ending condition for guitarists as it causes pain and numbness in fingers.
