Nintendo boosts Game

FlAGGING retailer Game Digital has received a welcome boost from the launch of the long-awaited Nintendo Switch console, with uK sales up 7pc since the end of January.

It came after a difficult first half when Game posted a 26.7pc fall in profits to £16.5m in the six months to January 28. revenue was down 9.1pc to £499m. Martyn Gibbs, chief executive, blamed ‘a weaker line-up of new game launches and underperformance of key titles,’ but the group is setting its hopes on strong sales from forthcoming games.

Sales of games consoles continued to be hit hardest, plunging 34.2pc across the group’s 311 uK stores.

Shares closed up 12pc, or 4.75p, to 44.5p.
