Rampant nonsense over flying flags
I WROTE last week about my local MP railing against a Union flag flying in Largs.
It is gone, which the SNP’s Patricia Gibson will regard as a victory.
The flagpole remains, above a shuttered pub. That speaks volumes about the problems North Ayrshire faces but I’m sure urban blight can be blamed on Westminster austerity.
And I spotted a Lion Rampant fluttering just along the coast. Separatist types often run it out despite it being the banner of the old kings of Scotland.
Since she’s suddenly so hot on the rules about flags, Miss Gibson will know the Lion Rampant is now exclusively reserved for representatives of the Sovereign.
To do nothing about this latest provocation would lay Miss Gibson open to the charge that she’s only anti the Union flag. Wouldn’t that be terrible?
