Rivals on alert as Boyd considers future at Burnley

- By LAURIE WHITWELL

FORMER Scotland international George Boyd has begun to seriously consider leaving Burnley after rejecting a one-year contract offer from the club. The midfielder’s current terms expire this summer and a number of English Premier League and Championship clubs are interested in securing his services for free. The midfielder produced a man-of-thematch display and scored the only goal in Tuesday’s victory over Stoke which moved Burnley away from the Premier League relegation zone. After a long delay, Burnley offered the 31-year-old just a 12-month extension last month but Boyd has made it clear he wants a deal lasting at least two further seasons. He has been a mainstay of Sean Dyche’s team since signing from Hull for £3million in 2014, featuring in 110 league games from a possible 115. A host of clubs are scouting Boyd with a view to taking advantage of the situation.
