WOULD YOU EAT YOGHURT MADE OF VEG?

Adding extra vegetables to unexpected products is a new trend. But are veggie-infused foods as healthy as they seem? Kaitlin Colucci, of the British dietetic Associatio­n, assesses new products for their health benefits; we tested their flavour.

Pineapple, Squash and Turmeric Yoghurt 69p per 125g pot, Waitrose

PER POT: Calories, 98; saturated fat, 1.6g; sugar, 11.4g; salt, 0.16g.

EXPERT VERDICT: this low-fat yoghurt is flavoured with pineapple juice, mango and butternut squash, though the squash accounts for just 4 per cent.

It does have added sugar — 1tsp less than standard fruit yoghurt — but is also fortified with vitamin D (31 per cent of your daily needs) for bone strength. TASTE: Pineapple-y. 3/5 B Free Sweet Potato Wraps £3.99, six wraps, Tesco PER WRAP: Calories, 95; saturated fat, 0.2g; sugar, 4.2g; salt, 0.19g EXPERT VERDICT: Made from sweet potato (a rich source of the antioxidan­t betacarote­ne) and rice flours rather than wheat. each wrap contains 4.6g of fibre, twice the amount in a normal white wrap. sweet potato also contains useful vitamin e. TASTE: Chewy, with a tasty wholegrain flavour. 5/5 Primrose’s Kitchen Raw Beetroot & Ginger Muesli £5.99 for 400g, Holland & Barrett PER 40g SERVING: Calories, 175; saturated fat, 2.8g; sugar, 4.2g; salt, 0g. EXPERT VERDICT: Oatbased, this muesli is 22 per cent dried beetroot, a source of potassium for keeping the brain, nerves and muscles healthy. Beetroot is also rich in iron. Ginger contains antiinflam­matory compounds.

this muesli has a high proportion of seeds and nuts, good sources of vitamin e and fibre. Compared with other muesli, it has a higher proportion of saturated fat, but it’s coconut oil, a form that’s thought to raise ‘good’ cholestero­l. TASTE: Ginger-y and crunchy. 3/5 Good Life French Bean and Spinach Sausages £2.49 for six, Ocado PER SAUSAGE: Calories, 86; saturated fat, 1.9g; sugar, 0.5g; salt, 0.45g EXPERT VERDICT: Made with peas, spinach, leeks, cauliflowe­r, cheese and couscous, a couple of these could count as one of your five a day. the saturated fat content is 30 per cent lower than standard sausages, and the salt 40 per cent lower. TASTE: spicy; a hint of mint. 5/5
