Farage and his bad boys of Brexit promise ‘mischief and mayhem’

- By Claire Ellicott

NIGEL Farage and the other self-styled ‘bad boys of Brexit’ last night threatened ‘mischief, mayhem and guerilla warfare’ in the General Election campaign.

The former Ukip leader, who contested the South Thanet seat in the last election, raised the prospect of standing for Parliament for an eighth time.

On his LBC radio show, Mr Farage told listeners that there was a ‘big bit of me that says I want to do it’ and he would decide whether to stand in the coming days.

Earlier he met Brexiteers Richard Tice, Arron Banks and Andy Wigmore following Theresa May’s surprise announcement.

Mr Wigmore posted a picture of them on Twitter with the caption: ‘Strategy meeting – mischief, mayhem and guerrilla warfare in the GE2017 – you’ve been warned.’

Former Ukip donor Mr Banks plans to stand against Clacton MP Douglas Carswell, who quit the party last month.

At the time, the insurance tycoon vowed to challenge Mr Carswell for the Essex seat and, asked on Twitter yesterday if he still intended to stand, he replied: ‘You bet.’ It is not clear which party he would represent. Mr Banks had intended to launch a ‘Patriotic Alliance’ next month to put up candidates against Remainer MPs, but the election has come too soon for it. He has parted ways with Ukip, but last night his spokesman suggested he may rejoin.

Mr Carswell indicated Ukip had served its purpose, tweeting: ‘Those who voted Ukip last time can take pride in the knowledge that they made Brexit reality. Job done.’

Yesterday the party’s leader Paul Nuttall welcomed the snap election and said his party was the only one committed to a ‘clean, quick and efficient Brexit’.

Mr Nuttall, who lost the recent Stoke-onTrent by-election, predicted Ukip would take ‘a handful’ of seats.
