Cathro is expecting Nicholson to quit Hearts

- By ALAN DOUGLAS

HEARTS boss Ian Cathro has reluctantly conceded that Sam Nicholson wants to quit the club in the summer. The 22-year-old, who has made over 100 appearances since emerging through the youth ranks in 2012, is out of contract in the close season — with Cathro confirming yesterday that talks regarding a new contract have broken down. The club will be due a development fee of around £400,000 for the winger, with Rangers reportedly among those interested. Nicholson has not featured for Hearts since April 5, when he was sent off in a 1-0 defeat at St Johnstone for spitting in the direction of an assistant referee. Asked whether he was steeling himself for Nicholson’s departure, Cathro, whose side host Partick Thistle today, said: ‘I expect that to be the case. These are individuals’ decisions. ‘Nothing is happening (with his contract). It is as it is. Sam is out of contract, so he’s our player until the end date on that. From that point on, that’s that. ‘He’s a young Scottish player with talent and, for that reason, we would like to have all those players here. But this is part of football, part of the business.’ Meanwhile, Hearts will roll back the years next season after confirming the name of their new-look stadium will revert to ‘Tynecastle Park’. The club played their matches on a field known as Tynecastle Park — now Wardlaw Street and Wardlaw Place — when they moved to Gorgie in 1881 and retained the title after uprooting to the current site five years later. In a decision that proved unpopular with fans, the name of their home in Edinburgh’s west end was changed to ‘Tynecastle Stadium’ in 1997. However, Hearts chiefs held talks with fans and it has been decided the original name will be re-instated on completion of their new £12million main stand.
