FOREST FLYER

Warburton plots McKay move if Ibrox talks stall

- By STEPHEN McGOWAN

NOTTINGHAM FOREST plan to move for Barrie McKay if the winger’s contract talks with rangers end in stalemate.

entering the final year of his current deal, the 22-year-old insists he wants to stay with the Ibrox club.

However, after rejecting the offer of an extension in February, McKay is able to talk to clubs from next January if an agreement can’t be reached.

And Sportsmail understands former rangers boss Mark Warburton hopes to land a cut-price deal for the scotland international in the New Year.

scorer of the winning goal in saturday’s 2-1 win over Hearts after being restored to the starting line-up by Pedro Caixinha, McKay says the ball is now in the club’s court, with talks expected to restart this summer.

‘My agent spoke to the club a while ago, but they haven’t come back to us,’ said McKay. ‘It’s up to them now.

‘When they first spoke to my agent, the previous

manager was still here and when they sent an offer the new manager had come in. ‘Since we got back to them, nothing’s happened. ‘This is where I want to stay. Despite having ups and downs, I’ve enjoyed every minute at Rangers. ‘I’ve read stuff saying because I’ve not signed I must want away. It’s not like that, but the fans might read it like that. ‘It’s important they know the truth. I’m in no rush to leave. It’s not as if I want out. I want to play here. ‘Until anyone tells me different, I’ll be a Rangers player.’ Caixinha plans to strengthen his squad with the addition of Bruno Alves from Cagliari in a £450,000 deal. Kuwaiti club Qadsia are also holding out for a fee for defender Rashid Sumaila after warning the Ghanaian is under contract. Last night, agent Pedro Pinto told

Sportsmail: ‘Rashid is under contract in Kuwait until 2019. ‘If Rangers meet the valuation, everything is possible in football. ‘The value of the player is whatever the club wants to offer.’
