Nasal spray stops endless trips to loo
Doctors have developed a nasal spray to stop regular trips to the loo. the nasal spray, Noctiva, has been developed for nocturia, an uncontrollable urge to urinate at night.
the spray, which is squirted up the nose 30 minutes before sleep, contains desmopressin, a drug that imitates a natural hormone that increases absorption of liquid by the kidneys and slows urine production.
Desmopressin is already used as a tablet to treat severe bedwetting in children, and a spray version is licensed for Ms patients, but this new spray could be available for thousands more and is expected to be available in the UK in the next year or two.
Nocturia affects roughly half of the over 50s, but peaks later in life — with more than 70 per cent of those aged over 70 affected.
