PICK OF THE DAY

THREE GIRLS, 9PM, BBC1

-

BASED on the shocking true stories of grooming and sexual abuse in Rochdale, this hardhitting three-part drama gets off to a compelling start; but be warned, it’s far from easy viewing. It begins with troubled teenager Holly (Molly Windsor, pictured centre with Liv Hill and Ria Zmitrowicz) falling in with not just a bad crowd, but the

worst — a gang of girls who are being groomed by a group of sleazy men at the local kebab shop. The men seem to be taking a friendly interest in them, but turn out to be the stuff of nightmares — ‘We’re friends. Friends do things for each other.’ Maxine Peake and Lesley Sharp play two women who were instrumental in getting the girls’ voices heard. Continues tomorrow and Thursday.
