888 slips after probe

-

SHARES in 888 Holdings fell after watchdogs launched an investigation into how the online bookmaker deals with problem gambling.

The UK Gambling Commission is looking at whether 888 operates ‘effective self-exclusion tools’ that allow punters to take self-imposed breaks from betting with the company.

Under rules introduced last year, betting firms must offer ‘take-a-break’ tools that offer punters time off of a day or longer.

The self-exclusion tools offer longer breaks, usually six months or more. Customers taking advantage of them cannot access their betting account even if they want to.

888 said it is ‘dedicated to providing players with a responsible as well as enjoyable gaming experience’. It said it will co-operate with the UKGC’s review. Shares fell 5.9pc, or 17.5p, to 280.5p.
