Kane gets his Golden Boot bid back on track

-

AT the start of the night, it seemed certain that Harry Kane would narrowly miss out on the Golden Boot to either Romelu Lukaku or Alexis Sanchez. By full-time at Leicester, the Englishman was in the driving seat after hitting the back of the net four times to go two clear of the Belgian on 26 goals. Kane’s efforts, as well as a Son Heung-min double, completed a rout of the recently resurgent champions, whose fans taunted last season’s runners-up throughout the match. A summer of uncertainty lies ahead for Spurs, with Kyle Walker missing last night amidst rumours of a transfer to Manchester City, as well a move to Wembley next season. With Walker’s normal replacement Kieran Trippier also missing due to injury, Mauricio Pochettino switched to a 3-1-4-2 formation, which the Foxes looked to exploit. Early momentum was with the hosts but that soon changed as Kane, Son and Dele Alli began to take control. Son and Kane soon created the breakthrough, albeit with a little help from their hosts. Yohan Benalouane tried to play offside 30 yards out, failed, and was too slow to get back by the time Son had squared for Kane to finish on the volley. Before the break, Alli picked out Son with a delicate pass between Christian Fuchs and Benalouane, the Korean firing his 20th goal of the season. Leicester did get back into the match after the break through Ben Chilwell, but that only seemed to rile Spurs as Kane and then Son both scored again in the following 12 minutes. There was more to come from Spurs’ star striker, though, as he capped his display with another double in the final few minutes. Kane said afterwards: ‘I wanted to get one or two goals, at least, and take it to the final game. ‘I am in the driving seat but there’s still one more game. I am not resting on my laurels. Hopefully I can get the Golden Boot.’
