Vincent happy to help the Caley cause

- BRIAN MARJORIBANKS

THE scorer of the most celebrated goal in Inverness history, James Vincent’s place in Caley Thistle folklore is already assured. These days the 27-yearold, whose winning strike against Falkirk in the 2015 final brought the Scottish Cup to the Highlands, is employed by Dundee. But Vincent is hoping to end the weekend with his legendary status at his old club enhanced, by helping down Hamilton to aid Caley Thistle’s unlikely survival bid. A 2-0 win at Dens Park on Wednesday has the Premiership’s bottom club now just a point behind 11th-placed Accies. A home victory for Caley Thistle over Motherwell tomorrow combined with a Dundee win at the Superseal Stadium would send Accies straight down to the Championship. And Vincent would be happy to see his old club escape outright relegation and qualify for a play-off against Falkirk or Dundee United. ‘You don’t want to see your old teams do badly, especially if you have left the place on good terms,’ he said. ‘Hopefully we can get a result against Hamilton on Saturday and after that it’s up to Inverness. ‘To go from winning the Scottish Cup in 2015 to the position they are in now is crazy. Yes, but it has been a crazy league this season. ‘But Inverness have given themselves a chance and we will see what happens at the weekend. We will focus on ourselves and we want to win our game. ‘And if that helps Inverness, then so be it. ‘If we win and Caley Thistle win, too, then fair play to them.’
