Call The Midwife star’s baby plans on hold after break-up

- Edited by RICHARD EDEN

CALL The Midwife’s Laura Main admitted this year that filming her character giving birth made her yearn for a baby of her own.

Now the 40-year-old has shared some sad news: she’s split with her boyfriend, actor Stephen McGlynn.

‘If anyone were to look online they would think I was still in a relationship, but let’s just say I am now single,’ discloses Laura, who plays Sister Bernadette. The Aberdonian daughter of a fishmonger and McGlynn, 45, who has appeared in crime drama Silent Witness, fell in love while appearing in State Fair at London’s Trafalgar Studios seven years ago. Laura, who lived with McGlynn (both pictured, below) in London, is reluctant to reveal more about the split, but the news comes just weeks after she spoke about her desire to have a baby.

Her character in the BBC1 Sixties drama adopted a child before finally having the baby she thought she could never conceive.

‘Here I am as a midwife giving birth,’ said Laura.

‘It was just lovely . . . It makes me want a baby of my own.’

Now the heartbroken star plans to throw herself into work. ‘I am about to start filming series seven with baby Teddy,’ she says. ‘I am looking forward to lots of cuddles on set.’

She adds: ‘Yes, I would like to have a family — if the right person comes along.’
