Heneghan feels right at home on the Ibrox turf
RANGERS target Ben Heneghan last night confessed that he loves playing at Ibrox — but the Motherwell central defender insists he’s still in the dark over Pedro Caixinha’s reported interest in him. The big Englishman was told that the Portuguese manager had been particularly impressed with his performance during last month’s 1-1 draw in Govan. And 23-year-old Heneghan, who arrived at Fir Park from Chester last summer on a two-year deal, admits that playing on Scottish football’s bigger stages feels like a natural fit for him. He said: ‘To be honest, each time I’ve played at either Ibrox Stadium or Celtic Park, I don’t know what it is, but I feel more solid in my performance. ‘I think you just look around you and, honestly, you want to play at those grounds. It’s a big platform. ‘I’m not saying it should do — but it gives you that little edge.’ Asked if he would find it hard to reject an offer from Rangers if one was to come his way, Heneghan said: ‘Celtic and Rangers are huge clubs, known worldwide. But, until I know any different, I’m here at Motherwell. ‘I’ve got another year on my deal at Motherwell. I’ve had a chat. But, until I hear anything concrete, I’m still here. ‘As far as I know, I’m a Motherwell player. We’ll see what happens over the summer. ‘But I’ll be back in here for pre-season, as far as I know.’ Heneghan, unable to prevent Motherwell losing their final game of the season on Saturday at Inverness, added: ‘It’s nice to have the recognition but it’s not coming from me. ‘There hasn’t been any contact with me. I just keep my head focused. ‘If something happens, it happens. If it doesn’t, then I’m happy here.’
