- BY HELEN McGINN

BARGAIN OF THE WEEK

Cave de Lugny Sparkling Burgundy Blanc de Blancs NV, £10.49 (normally £13.99), Waitrose MADE like champagne (ie, bottle fermented) and from the one of the same grapes, this is the closest you’ll get to the real thing without having to pay the champagne price tag.

WHITE WINE

Castellore Grillo Sauvignon Blanc, £4.99, Aldi AMAZING value for money, this Sicilian stunner is like lemon drops in a glass. A blend of the Italian grillo grape and the rather more jet-set sauvignon blanc, it’s deliciously fresh. Must be properly chilled.

Food pairing: Crisps and dips.

RED WINE

Tesco Finest Barbera d’Alba 2014, WITH gorgeous cherry aromas and black fruit flavours, this rustic red is bright and juicy with plenty of mouthwatering freshness. Made from the barbera grape.

Food pairing: Barbecued sausages.

ROSE WINE

Chapel Down english Rose 2015, £11, Sainsbury’s ENGLISH still wines are a force to be reckoned with now — and as English Wine Week starts on Saturday, it’s a good excuse to crack open a bottle. Make it this rose from leading Kentbased producer Chapel Down; crisp and fruity with a chalky edge.

Food: Cucumber sandwiches.
