Canaries tell Rangers to increase Dorrans bid

Rangers have agreed a fee with Chivas Guadalajar­a for the 27-year-old midfielder, who is expected to sign a contract until 2020. But the Mexican internatio­nal — who spent last season on loan at Leon in his native country — will have to travel home to await a work permit as part of a Home Office requiremen­t. Pena hasn’t played in enough of his country’s competitiv­e matches to qualify automatica­lly for clearance but Rangers are confident that he will be granted approval.

RANGERS have lodged a £1million bid for Graham Dorrans — but Norwich City are holding out for another £500,000 before letting the Scotland midfielder sign for his boyhood heroes. New Ibrox boss Pedro Caixinha is wasting little time in overhaulin­g the squad inherited from Mark Warburton in March. Former Aberdeen skipper Ryan Jack and Portuguese internatio­nal defender Bruno Alves have already been snapped up. Mexican midfielder Carlos Pena also appears to be close to joining the Ibrox club after travelling to Glasgow for a medical — although the delays involved in applying for a work permit mean he isn’t expected to join the first-team squad when they return to training on Monday. But the move for Dorrans appears much closer to completion. The 30-year-old signed a new three-year contract at Carrow Road last summer but he is being lined up for the exit door as Norwich look to shake up their squad. However, the Canaries have slapped a £1.5m fee on the head of the player. Despite missing three months with a knee injury, Dorrans still scored six goals in 24 appearance­s for Norwich as they finished eighth in the English Championsh­ip.
