A defining moment of love

-

ON SUNDAY night, flanked by an army of charttoppers, Ariana Grande returned to Manchester to perform a one-off show in memory of the 22 people who died in last month’s terror attack in the city.

Watching at home, there was no denying the goodwill emanating from that stage. There was something genuinely touching about those normally rather badly-behaved pop stars — from Katy Perry (left) to Justin Bieber, Liam Gallagher and Miley Cyrus — on their best behaviour, earnestly entertaining 50,000 starstruck teenagers and their mums.

Sometimes, a moment comes along that defines a generation. For me it was 1985’s Live Aid. For those of my daughter’s age, their moment could well turn out to be Sunday’s One Love Manchester concert.
