Slimmer forecast for Carol after she runs off 3 stone

- By Fraser Clarke

HER enthusiasm and warm cheer can brighten up even the dullest days. And now weather woman Carol Kirkwood has even more to smile about, as she reaps the rewards of a new-found love for running.

BBC Breakfast viewers can expect to see a little less of the 55-year-old after she lost three stone in weight thanks to her hobby.

Until recently the presenter, from Morar, Inverness-shire, was a size 14-16 but has now dropped three dress sizes to a svelte size 10-12.

After appearing in Strictly Come Dancing in 2015, Miss Kirkwood took up running as part of the BBC Get Inspired project and has never looked back.

She now regularly runs around six miles.

The forecaster told Bella magazine: ‘I started doing it because it was for the BBC. They wanted me to inspire others, so I couldn’t give up.’ Miss Kirkwood is also kept active presenting the weather on BBC Breakfast television and on Radio 2’s Chris Evans morning show.

Dashing between both studios helps the Met Office-trained forecaster rack up the miles but she admits she still has some body hang-ups.

She said: ‘I always say my hips look fat or my bottom looks huge. I’m so busy during my shift that I have trainers on. I run from the TV studio to the radio every 15 minutes. I do about six to eight thousand steps every morning.’

Miss Kirkwood was the sixth celebrity to leave Strictly, when she appeared with professional Pasha Kovalev.

She said of her exit: ‘I’m sad it’s over but the time was right for me – I’ve just had the best time ever.’
